Avengers Endgame Encore: Post Credit Scenes Explained

Avengers Endgame Encore was released on 25th September, and let me tell you, it will take you back in time. I kid you not. But since we all know about the movie already (I will keep the glazing for later), let’s talk about what everyone was waiting for: the extra scenes and the post-credits scenes.

How Many Post Credit Scenes Are in Avengers Endgame Encore?

Avengers Endgame Encore has 3 post-credits scenes, two of which are mid-credits, 1 end-credits scene and an added scene at the end of the movie itself. So, if you’re keeping count, that brings the number of new scenes to 4, all of which start after the movie ends. And there is quite a lot to unpack here.

Avengers Endgame Encore Ending: Loki Meets Steve and Peggy

The first one is at the end of the movie. In Endgame, the movie ends with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter having their long-awaited dance, but Endgame Encore extends the scene. We see Loki knock on their door, seemingly wanting to save both Steve and Peggy. We don’t get more details, just that Loki is in the same outfit he rocked at the end of Loki Season 2. And now we start with the three post-credits scenes.

Mid-Credits Scene 1: Doctor Doom Comes for Bruce Banner

The first mid-credits scene is of Bruce Banner, seemingly in an underground bunker after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bruce has locked himself and the Hulk in, but he is still researching gamma radiation, presumably to control Hulk again. And then we see glitches. We hear Doctor Doom saying he has come to “collect” Bruce, and the screen blacks out to the screams of both Bruce and Hulk. And then we see green magic circles on the ground.

So, for those who know, this could be a direct callout to the Battleworld storyline.

Mid-Credits Scene 2: Loki, Mobius and the TVA Incursions

The second mid-credits scene is of Mobius and the TVA. We see a picture of Loki as “Employee of All Time”. And then we see incursion alerts going off between Earth-10005 and Earth-1127. The screen shows missile-like projectiles being fired between the planets, showing the universes seemingly trying to destroy each other before the incursion happens.

That could be lead to the scenes we saw in the Avengers: Doomsday Trailer. Earth-10005 is the X-Men world. Still unsure which universe is Earth-1127, safe to assume we will be dealing with the ramifications of their actions. In case you are wondering the MCU earth is Earth-199999.

The TVA also gets reports of incursions increasing at an exponential level.

But one thing did stand out. The last number reported is 3000. Could that be a callback to the “I Love You 3000” line? Or could it just be a red herring?

Avengers Endgame Encore End-Credits Scene: Doctor Doom’s Mask

And then comes the most unique and interesting one of them all. Remember the sound we got at the end of Endgame back in 2019? The sound was originally a callback to Tony hammering away while creating the Mark I in the cave. Well, Endgame Encore now uses that same sound to transition into Doctor Doom making his mask.

Say what you will, this changes the meaning of that Endgame end-credit moment in retrospect. Listen, do I think Marvel had planned it back then? I would be lying if I said I believed that. But do I think it is an interesting parallel to draw?

Absolutely.

Tony Stark played the ultimate hero and gave the ultimate sacrifice to save the world. And another guy who looks just like him is also likely looking to save the universe, but in a far crueler way.

What Do the Endgame Encore Scenes Mean for Avengers Doomsday?

Have the Endgame Encore scenes increased the hype for Avengers: Doomsday even more? Heck yeah, they did. Do I think these scenes could just have been teasers released over the next two months in intervals and had the exact same impact?

Totally.

Did I still enjoy Avengers Endgame with every morsel of my being?

Absolutely.

So now that the credits are discussed, let’s talk about the movie.

Avengers Endgame Encore Review: Reliving 2019 Again

The movie itself, to be fair, changes nothing much. At least not something that stood out to me. I had always wondered if I would get to relive 2019. The first time watching the movie in a packed cinema, with hundreds of people screaming and cheering for moments like it was the pinnacle of pop culture. I always thought it would likely never be recreated, be it Marvel or otherwise.

Times were different. I grew up with those movies. We didn’t have social media algorithms feeding us AI videos and analogies. Every theory before the movie made it feel like an event. And Avengers Endgame had delivered on that promise made back in 2012’s The Avengers, when we first saw a glimpse of Thanos.

In retrospect, it is a movie that is seven years old. There are many people who have pointed out several flaws. Mistakes here, continuity errors there. But the fact is, to me, and likely many more, it was a core moment where we experienced a collective hype. And Avengers Endgame Encore brought all those memories and experiences back. Man, when Marvel is on song, there is nothing better than them.

Every moment relived. Every Cap pep talk. Every Tony quip. Every sad moment. You know Tony will die at the end, but you can’t help but cheer when he says:

“And I… am Iron Man.”

You still get goosebumps when Cap lifts Mjolnir. Or when the Avengers theme starts playing and everyone assembles. Or knowing Nat will not come back, and her last words to everyone were: “See you in a minute.”

Is Avengers Endgame Encore Just a Cash Grab?

Let’s be honest. This feels like a cash grab. Truly.

But I think this is for die hard fans. Fans like me, for whom this movie and franchise clearly mean a lot. Fans who would sell out the first day first show of a seven year old movie.

Perhaps the experience of watching Avengers Endgame Encore is best summed up by the heckler in the row in front of me: “This is F-ing CINEMA!”
