Standout Performances

We just have to mention the leads for their incredible performance in this movie.

Shahid Kapoor is one of the film’s strongest elements. His portrayal of the brooding gangster is intense, physically committed, and emotionally layered. Even though the story was a bit of mixed bag his performance definitely held the film together

Triptii Dimri plays a vengeance-driven femme fatale and brings conviction to the role. Though her role is quite stereotypical in the sense of how bollywood has recently cast “modern” female leads, she does the best with what she is given with especially those emotionally charged moments.

Veteran Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary add weight to the movie, though some characters feel underwritten. Just not enough time to flesh out their full potential.

The Score and Cinematography

The background score effectively supports the film’s dark and brooding atmosphere. During action and tension-heavy sequences, the music elevates the stakes and helps maintain the gritty tone the film aims for. However, while technically competent, the songs themselves lack strong recall value. Think of it this way, a viral Instagram song which you like when it is comes on and is catchy but unmemorable.

The Cinematography is easily one of the film’s strongest departments. The visuals are moody, textured, and carefully stylized to reflect the underworld setting. Low-key lighting, shadow play, and tight framing create a sense of constant tension.

The film would have benefited from tighter pacing and crisper editing. Several scenes overstay their welcome, slowing the narrative and quickly becoming ad nauseam.

What Worked in O'Romeo

Shahid Kapoor delivers an intense and emotionally charged performance that keeps you invested throughout. His brooding screen presence adds weight even when the script is found lacking.
Vishal Bhardwaj crafts a dark, immersive underworld that feels textured and authentic. His signature moody tone gives the film a distinct cinematic identity.
The film maintains a polished, neo-noir look with shadowy frames and stylized compositions. This visual consistency enhances the movie’s dark romantic mood.
The action is gritty and grounded, making the fights feel raw and high-stakes. The choreography avoids over-the-top spectacle and stays emotionally connected to the story.
O’Romeo stands out for mixing passionate romance with underworld drama. At its best, this fusion creates compelling tension and emotional depth.

Where O'Romeo Fell Short

O’Romeo overstays its welcome, causing certain portions to feel dragged. Tighter pacing could have made the narrative more compelling.
The writing shows flashes of brilliance but lacks consistency across acts. Some plot developments feel rushed while others linger unnecessarily.
Despite strong performances, the emotional core doesn’t always hit as hard as it should. Key moments needed stronger buildup and payoff.
While the background score supports the mood, the songs fail to leave a lasting impression. None of them emerge as truly memorable. It feels like they were designed more to go viral on Instagram than to be genuinely listened to. Yes, Bollywood has been heading in this direction for a while now, and the days of unforgettable soundtracks seem long gone, but come on.
O’Romeo struggles at times to smoothly balance romance with crime elements. The tonal whiplash disrupts the film’s emotional flow.

Final Verdict: Ambitious but Mediocre

O’Romeo is an ambitious but imperfect gangster romance. It is carried by the cast performance, especially Shahid Kapoor but stumbles due to pacing and writing issues. Fans of dark, stylish crime dramas will find plenty to admire, while viewers expecting a tight romantic tragedy will feel underwhelmed.
